Europe is alive with protest. The EU is the model for the US. In Spain, according to Bloomberg News, flash mobs are converging on homes that are being foreclosed on to keep the people from losing them.
The important thing to know about Spain is that if you default on your bank loan they don't just take the property as collateral; you still owe above whatever the bank sells the house for if they don't cover the whole loan amount with the sale. Then that debt is against not just the person who took out the loan but against their family. So if you die your children still owe the debt.
