SMART METERS: 140 MILLION UNITS PER YEAR TO BE INSTALLED

12/7/2014

iCharts
SMART METERS are big business.  This report from 2011 anticipates 140 million smart meters PER YEAR to be installed worldwide.

the following is from this website:
http://www.smartgridobserver.com/n3-7-12-1.htm

Results from IDC Energy Insights'
Worldwide Quarterly Smart Meter Tracker found that worldwide smart meter shipments in the fourth quarter of 2011 grew 11.8% over the previous quarter and were up 23.8% when compared to the fourth quarter of 2010. The firm expects annual smart meter shipments to surpass 140 million units worldwide by 2016, up from 25.4 million in 2011. This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 32.9% over the 2011 to 2016 forecast period.

While IDC Energy Insights expects developing markets to drive smart meter growth through 2016, the revival of the Canadian market and an uptick in shipments to Central and Eastern Europe were the primary drivers in the closing quarter of 2011. In 2012, smart meter shipments in Europe are expected to accelerate as country-level planning continues to progress and the pathway towards the European Commission's "20-20-20" targets finally begins to materialize. Shipments will also ramp up significantly in the Asia/Pacific region as the massive markets in China and India begin to integrate advanced metering infrastructure. The Japanese market is also gaining momentum with the renewed focus on conservation in the wake of Fukushima, while utilities in Oceana are learning to manage the consumer backlash that emerged from previous deployments.

As the smart metering industry moves through 2016, the firm anticipates that activity will shift from North America and Europe to the developing world. This shift will be accompanied by an evolution to meet a new set of market needs. Dean Chuang, senior research analyst on the IDC Energy Insights Trackers team, notes "Local deployment patterns are beginning to emerge in the global smart metering industry. Each market and each utility has different needs and different intentions for their AMI system. Smart meter vendors are developing a wide array of solutions to fit the needs of each market."

UN Agenda 21 in Canada---source documents and analysis

The following is from the International Institute of Sustainable Development, a UN Agenda 21 partner.  The IISD offers a diskette with the full report, or you can read the different assessments of Canadian progress in implementing Agenda 21 (as of 1994) by click below on the source website.  The text below in black is directly from their website.  For those who are still in denial, please understand that more than 20 years have passed since the UN Earth Summit 1992 and you are living with the results.  Full implementation is planned for 2050 with interim major transformation at 2020 and 2035.

"Canadian Responses to Agenda 21: An Assessment
This electronic publication was first compiled and released on diskette in 1994. It provides the framework and context for sustainable development action in Canada, and a benchmark of our progress towards a sustainable
society.

At the Earth Summit in Rio de Janerio, June 1992, governments from around the world agreed to Agenda 21. This workplan identifies what needs to be done by all of us to achieve sustainable development in the 21st century.

Canadian responses to Agenda 21 were compiled by representatives of all sectors of Canadian society, meeting as part of the Projet de société.. We have endeavoured to capture the essence of Agenda 21; identify Canadian policies and positions with respect to Earth Summit objectives; and identify what Canadians are doing, or are planning to do, which is consistent with those objectives.

This version of Canada and Agenda 21 presents you with the chapter by chapter assessment of Agenda 21 from Canadian perspectives, linked to the full text of each chapter of Agenda 21 itself.

Please note: We have provided links to Agenda 21 files located in the CIESIN collection of UNCED documents. Only selected chapters are available in the final edited version. Where necessary, we have provided a link to the "pre-final", advanced version of Agenda 21. The official version of Agenda 21 is available in print and on CD-ROM from the United Nations Publications Sales office.

IISD's Canada and Agenda 21 diskette also includes:

  • Current Canadian initiatives linked to Agenda 21 chapters and other Rio agreements
  • Information on how organizations are changing the way they work
  • Contact information for organizations who participated in Earth Summit activities, and/or in this follow-up survey.

    And the winner is...

What is UN Agenda 21/Sustainable Development?
It is the blueprint, the comprehensive plan of action for the 21st century to inventory and control all land, all water, all plants, all minerals, all animals, all construction, all means of production, all energy, all law enforcement, all health care, all food, all education, all information, and all human beings in the world
    .

Your energy consumption will be controlled until you can't farm, can't manufacture, can't travel, can't fish, can't use your land. Productivity and businesses are limited now.

You've heard that story about Tony Blair asking Angela Merkel how Germany could have such a high GDP when it was such a small country.  Merkel snapped at him: We still make things in Germany, Mr. Blair.
