Redefining Freedom: Facial Recognition,Mannerism Identification, the FBI & you

9/17/2012

About 5 years ago, in an airport waiting line, I struck up a conversation with a man who told me that he was a security software developer working on contracts for various governments.  He told me that it was possible to identify anyone from their facial characteristics.  I said that if someone were wearing sunglasses that would be difficult, right?  No, he said, because there were actually metrics for identifying someone covered completely, by mapping their physical movements.  He said that each of us is unique to a minor, measurable, degree.
This is apparently also useful in identifying those who play video games, type on their computers, or use any electronic device--our keystrokes are identifiable.

I just received this article from the online magazine Russia Today:

"Birthmarks, be damned: the FBI has officially started rolling out a state-of-the-art face recognition project that will assist in their effort to accumulate and archive information about each and every American at a cost of a billion dollars.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has reached a milestone in the development of their Next Generation Identification (NGI) program and is now implementing the intelligence database in unidentified locales across the country, New Scientist reports in an article this week. The FBI first outlined the project back in 2005, explaining to the Justice Department in an August 2006 document (.pdf) that their new system will eventually serve as an upgrade to the current Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) that keeps track of citizens with criminal records across America .

“The NGI Program is a compilation of initiatives that will either improve or expand existing biometric identification services,” its administrator explained to the Department of Justice at the time, adding that  the project, “will accommodate increased information processing and sharing demands in support of anti-terrorism.”

“The NGI Program Office mission is to reduce terrorist and criminal activities by improving and expanding biometric identification and criminal history information services through research, evaluation and implementation of advanced technology within the IAFIS environment.”

The agency insists, “As a result of the NGI initiatives, the FBI will be able to provide services to enhance interoperability between stakeholders at all levels of government, including local, state, federal, and international partners.” In doing as such, though, the government is now going ahead with linking a database of images and personally identifiable information of anyone in their records with departments around the world thanks to technology that makes fingerprint tracking seem like kids' stuff."

Sometime within the past year, Jello was running an ad on TV and radio ad nauseum. I must have heard it 50+ times. They were advertising a dessert called Jell-o Temptations and they labeled it "for adults only." I wondered what ingredients it contained that would warrant that type of labeling. Something with alcohol in it? Jello shots maybe? So I went searching.

What I found was that they were implementing a machine that would dispense food via facial recognition. If your face didn't get recognized as an adult, then I guess you'd go hungry.

The dessert didn't contain any ingredients that you couldn't feed to your child. It was essentially a call to get as many adults as they could to have their faces scanned within the small window of time that their machines were in the area. You'd pay them money, get your face scanned and then be rewarded for being a good beta tester with some crappy gelatin dessert filled with chemical additives and genetically modified ingredients. Wow! What a deal.

The article I found at the time was on CNET, but I forgot the name of the dessert today (I wanted to send that article to you) and noticed all you have to do is Google "jello dessert, facial recognition, adults only" and many articles pop up regarding their facial recognition plan. The article I read spoke of an automated device that could be used to provide certain items that a child shouldn't have access to by facially recognizing if you were an adult or child, but what if you were an overly mature child or a "little person" with a smaller face? How would the machine differentiate between the 2? So I just thought this was a fluffy story hiding something bigger. With their constant advertising, they'd have an abundance of people standing in line to use this new technology, not even thinking what they would do with the information they were collecting and who they were giving it to. At the end of the article it stated that the information gathered would not be saved "at this time", which means it will at some point.

They must have got what they needed because I haven't heard even one commercial for it since. I'm sure at some point if and when they need children's faces, they will use the same technique to lure them in by the droves, possibly with a special treat or kids meal labeled "for children only".

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it because I happened to read your entry about the facial recognition software designer and it struck a chord.

PS I have to make a correction to my comment above. I had forgotten, but apparently the dessert was offered for free. A distinct and deliberate way to get more people to give up a bit of their freedom...just offer to replace it with some free pudding. Freedom Pudding! Yea!!!! (You could serve it with Freedom Fries. LOL...sorry, couldn't resist.)

Just like the Ancestry 21 - the DNA test -- As I have heard this all goes into a massive Data bank that the Government can tap anyone's DNA anytime

    And the winner is...

What is UN Agenda 21/Sustainable Development?
It is the blueprint, the comprehensive plan of action for the 21st century to inventory and control all land, all water, all plants, all minerals, all animals, all construction, all means of production, all energy, all law enforcement, all health care, all food, all education, all information, and all human beings in the world
    .

Your energy consumption will be controlled until you can't farm, can't manufacture, can't travel, can't fish, can't use your land. Productivity and businesses are limited now.

You've heard that story about Tony Blair asking Angela Merkel how Germany could have such a high GDP when it was such a small country.  Merkel snapped at him: We still make things in Germany, Mr. Blair.
